Game of Thrones Spinoff ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ to Feature Short Episode Count

A Game of Thrones spinoff As one of the directors of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Owen Harris has been dragged in.

Deadline broke the story when HBO said that The Hedge Knight, a George R.R. Martin adaptation, will have six episodes—shorter than the first two seasons of Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon.

Director of Black Mirror episodes, Owen Harris, will helm three episodes of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

The series will star Dexter Sol Ansell and Peter Claffey, and it will be released in 2025. “Two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros a century before the events of Game of Thrones,” reads the official synopsis of the show. The young, bold, but naive knight Ser Duncan the Tall, and the squire Little Egg. These unusual and unmatched companions face great destinies, fearsome foes, and treacherous adventures in an era where the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon is still fresh in people’s minds.

As executive producer, George R.R. Martin co-wrote the series alongside Owen Harris, Sarah Bradshaw, Ryan Condal, Vince Gerardis, and Ira Parker.

Fans have been eagerly awaiting the development of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, the Game of Thrones prequel, since HBO announced in April 2023 that it has placed a second order for the show.

Later on, the title was changed to “Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.”

The story will take place about 72 years after House of the Dragon and 100 years before Game of Thrones. Notably, a strike by thousands of screenwriters across Hollywood in May 2023 put a halt to production on the show.

In a blog post, George R.R. Martin announced that the writers’ room for the A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms prequel series was “closed for the duration of the strike.”
