Maya Rudolph’s feisty Beyoncé battles through hot wings in hilarious ‘SNL’ Hot Ones parody
Once more showcasing her impersonation skills, Maya Rudolph hosted NBC’s “Saturday Night Live,” playing the renowned Beyoncé in a parody comedy of the well-liked YouTube series, Hot Ones. Wearing a “Texas Hold Em” costume, Rudolph took on fiery hot wings with Mikey Day’s character, host Sean Evans.
Rudolph, as Beyoncé, first says in the comedy that she is confident she can manage the spice, saying, “I’m from Texas, baby.” Caliente, your girl likes it. She quickly struggles, though, and declares, “This wing is stomping my ass.”
Rudolph’s Beyoncé asks her aide, Kenan Thompson, for comfort as her pain worsens, jokingly asking for moisturizer to cool her burning bones. Wearing a colorful costume, Thompson’s persona heightens the scene’s comic effect. Rudolph’s Beyoncé keeps her diva image throughout the act, shooting jokes and clever repartee at Evans—at one point even comparing him to Gollum. The skit ends with a comic flourish as she jokingly asks her helper to give her cocoa butter and aloe lotion to help her cool down from the hot wings.
The way Rudolph portrayed Beyoncé in the “Hot Ones” parody delighted viewers and once more demonstrated her comic abilities on the SNL stage.
