“Our relationship developed to what it is today over the last 10 years,” Qualls said of his connection with Olsson.
Ty Olsson and DJ Qualls, stars of the supernatural, are engaged!
The 45-year-old actor broke the major news with Kelly Blackheart on his Locked and Probably Loaded podcast on May 15. He said in the show that once they met, he and Olsson bonded and that as their friendship developed into something more over time, they forged a close relationship.
Ty and I clicked right away, Qualls said. And our relationship developed to what it is now over the past 10 years, and we are getting married.
The actor, who portrayed werewolf Garth on the program, also related how he met his fiancé, who played vampire Benny on the show, during a convention for the hit CW series. “We maybe said three words together at the Supernatural convention, and then we went to London for four or five days afterward,” he added, adding that they “didn’t know each other at all.” “And then I was going to Turkey with a friend, who is just an amazing, pure man. ‘Can I come on the trip with you?’ he asked us as we all left together, the Z Nation actor revealed.
That is ballsy, I think. Never could I get myself invited on a trip. For I fear they would reluctantly say yes and then decide they don’t want me there. But that was just who he is—pure and amazing,” he said. “I had no acquaintance with him. And it marked the start of our friendship.
Olsson is among the “most wonderful” people Qualls has ever met, he continued. “It’s just so crazy that this person who was just my friend, now I think about all the time and he sends the best messages, supports me, and loves me unconditionally in the right way,” Qualls said.
The Turning Point actor added on the podcast that he believed “unconditional love” required “you treat that person with some respect and their best interests are your best interests,” and Olsson had met that requirement.
In all of my life, Ty was the first person I had ever experienced it with, Qualls stated. Only a friend, I say. Oddly, we will be old men together, yet he is the best buddy I have ever had.
Many program viewers congratulated the pair on social media after learning the news. Congratulations to DJ Qualls and Ty Olsson, what a time we live in, one user said on X (formerly known as Twitter).
“Thank you everyone for all the love and support and kindness today 🙂 sending you all some love and hugs,” Olsson said on X on Thursday, May 17 in response to the fan comments.
