The newest film by Yorgos Lanthimos, Bugonia, will star Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons.
The announcement was made only one day after Lanthimos’ Kinds of Kindness had its Cannes Film Festival debut. In Bugonia, which Will Tracy wrote, two conspiracy theorists abduct a powerful CEO because they believe she is an alien out to destroy Earth, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
A 2003 South Korean science fiction comedy called Save the Green Planet served as the film’s inspiration.
For Element Pictures, Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe will produce the project alongside Lanthimos, Ari Aster, Lars Knudsen, Stone, and producers from CJ ENM, Miky Lee and Jerry Kyoungboum Ko.
With Lanthimos, Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons—who also star in Kinds of Kindness—have become regular collaborators.
Stone had collaborated with the director on the critically acclaimed movies Poor Things and The Favourite.
