The first trailer for “Smile 2,” the follow-up to the monster smash of 2022, has been released by Paramount. In the follow-up, due on October 18, a pop singer (Naomi Scott) is driven insane by a malevolent curse that manifests as a spooky smile.
Writer and director of the first “Smile,” Parker Finn, returns alongside actor Kyle Gallner, who played police officer Joel. In the movie series, a malevolent, relentless demon that appears as a succession of people with menacing smiles on their faces pushes its victims to commit suicide.
Joel saw his ex-girlfriend Rose Cotter (Sosie Bacon) burn herself alive as the first installment came to an end after she set herself on fire because of the enigmatic smiling devil. Joel could soon suffer the same end since anybody who sees someone else dies at the hands of the monster becomes its next victim to be pushed to suicide.
Raúl Castillo, Dylan Gelula, Lukas Gage, Rosemarie DeWitt, and Miles Gutierrez-Riley are among the other cast members.
At first scheduled for a streaming-only debut on Paramount+, the film’s studio granted “Smile” a full theatrical release, which brought in $217 million at the box office worldwide. The grin-worthy success of the first picture surely persuaded Paramount to commit to another. Should the newest release achieve comparable success, it may mark the beginning of the next chapter in a storied history of horror series.
Following the premiere of the first movie, Finn said in passing “I do think that there is still a lot of exciting stuff to explore in the world of ‘Smile.’ Certainly, I purposefully left certain stones untouched.
The release day for “Smile 2” is October 18.
