Winning the album of the year, Killer Mike placed one of the top awards at the BET Awards.
At Sunday’s Los Angeles awards presentation, the Grammy-winning musician won for his album MICHAEL.
Chris Brown with 11:11, Gunna with A Gift & a Curse, 21 Savage with American Dream, Usher with Coming Home, Drake with For All the Dogs (Scary Hours Edition), Victoria Monét with Jaguar II, and Nicki Minaj with Pink Friday 2 competed for the same prize.
Among the eight-strong nominees this year, Killer Mike’s MICHAEL stood out as fans speculated about whether the award may be divided once more since Beyoncé and SZA both won for Renaissance and SOS respectively in 2023.
Saying “Thank you for seeing me, Black people,” Killer Mike said in his victory speech a great respect for the help of his fellow Black musicians.
He continued, “Thank you for believing Black folks. While also thanked his wife Shana, their four children, and his management, thank you for recognizing me in this way.
