Peaky Blinders Creator Steven Knight Reveals Special Bond with Snoop Dogg Over Hit Show’s Theme

Steven Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders, builds a true bond with Snoop Dogg over the hit show’s theme.

Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight recently revealed that, while the blockbuster Netflix series has a fanbase that includes celebrities such as Barack Obama, Tom Cruise, and Brad Pitt, Snoop Dogg’s approval had the most impact on him.

In a candid interview with BBC’s Desert Island Discs radio show, the prolific writer described his remarkable encounter with the rapper Drop It Like It’s Hot. He developed a deep connection to the show, which continued for six successful seasons until 2022.

Dogg told Knight that the series “reminded him of how he got into gang culture,” which spoke to the US native personally.

“It was all about family keeping you in and escaping from family to do the bad stuff, and then the family relocating their emotions and loyalties to follow you and then escaping again,” according to him.

This comment struck a chord with Knight, highlighting the universal elements of Peaky Blinders.

“It made me understand that there is something in Peaky that is pretty universal,” Knight told me.

Knight hailed Dogg as “such a great bloke” and “so nice to talk to,” emphasizing their true bond throughout the series.

Peaky Blinders, inspired by Knight’s childhood in Birmingham, was based on stories of local gangsters known as peaky blinders due to the manner they wore their peaked caps.
