Uzo Aduba Gets Candid About Finding Love: ‘Thought I Waited Too Long’ Before Meeting Her Husband

Uzo Aduba reveals she was concerned she ‘waited too long’ for love before meeting her husband.

Uzo Aduba is drawing comparisons between her dating experiences in New York City in her thirties and the legendary episodes of Sex and the City.

The 43-year-old Orange Is the New Black star told PEOPLE, “It’s true, you’ve got to kiss a lot of frogs before you find your one.”

Aduba discussed the difficulties of recalling former romances, stating, “I really thought this guy was the moon. He was the furthest thing from it.”

In her new memoir, The Road Is Good: How a Mother’s Strength Became a Daughter’s Purpose, which will be released on September 24, she describes her experiences with love and heartbreak.

One standout moment was her decision to text all but one of her past partners, expressing how they had harmed her and that she “hadn’t deserved it.”

The Emmy winner stated, “Every woman should do it.” We allowed them to get away with murder.

I had let myself be walked over and mistreated to a certain extent. “I deserve more respect, and it’s okay to demand it.”

Aduba admitted that she had not always been genuine about her relationship goals.

On early dates, she frequently minimized her desires, saying, “Oh, nothing serious.” “I just want to hang out,” he said, afraid that being honest would turn off possible companions.

She acknowledged, “I was ready to accept half of what I deserved,” hoping that her charm would finally win them over.

This thinking, she realized, had prepared her for disappointment when those men were not interested in a committed relationship.

The Orange Is the New Black star also opened up about her difficulties in finding love, saying that she nearly gave up hope.

“I was so sure that it just wasn’t going to happen because it was hard out there on these streets,” Aduba told me.
