On September 27, 2024, Dame Maggie Smith, who portrayed Minerva McGonagall in “Harry Potter,” passed away at the age of 89.
Dame Maggie Smith, Rupert Grint’s late co-star in Harry Potter, passed away over the weekend at the age of 89. Grint gave a moving tribute to her.
The 36-year-old actor expressed his feelings in a heartfelt Instagram post on Saturday, September 28, one day after the renowned actress’s passing became public on Friday.
“Heartbroken to hear about Maggie,” Grint wrote in her message. She was incredibly unique, constantly witty, and incredibly kind. I consider myself very lucky to have danced with her throughout our set together.
Throughout all eight of the Harry Potter films, Grint and Smith collaborated, with her character, Professor Minerva McGonagall, frequently clashed with his character, Ron Weasley.
During Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, one of their most famous on-screen moments occurred when McGonagall taught Ron and his classmates how to dance for the Yule Ball, setting up a memorable (and embarrassing) scene for the young wizard.
Grint added a still from this famous scene along with his tribute.
Maggie, I’ll miss you. I’m sending her family my deepest love. Rupert X,” the homage came to an end.
