Ariana Grande Reveals Why She Transformed Her Voice for Wicked: A Deep Dive into Her Role as Glinda

Ariana Grande explains why she engages with her critics.

Ariana Grande worked hard to be a part of the musical Wicked.

The 31-year-old actress had to fully immerse herself in her role as Glinda, even changing her voice for the highly anticipated film.

On November 6, Grande told The New York Times, “It was really important to erase as much of myself as possible so that they could just be looking at Glinda.”

Although filming concluded months ago, the character’s high note remains with the singer, and she has been eager to respond to any criticism of her current voice.

In September, the Supernatural singer told Vanity Fair that some people may never understand what it takes to entirely change one’s voice, whether for singing or a role.

However, the Victorious actor refused to be discouraged by the criticism and instead saw her performance as evidence of the enormous effort she had put in to play her dream part.

“It’s something that I’m just really proud of,” she said of her voice.

“Part of why I did want to engage with critics is because I am proud of my hard work and of the fact that I did give 100 percent of myself, so I wanted to protect it.”
