Lisa Kudrow worries AI is ‘going to ruin everything’ in the future.
Lisa Kudrow, a Friends alum, recently criticized the usage of artificial intelligence in the film Here.
The film, which reunited Tom Hanks and Forrest Gump co-star Robin Wright, is a multigenerational story about their characters in several periods.
During her latest podcast Armchair Expert, Kudrow criticized the film’s use of digital de-aging and claimed that Hanks’ new fantasy drama picture was an “endorsement for AI.”
The criticism came after the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes urged efforts to regulate the technology.
“They shot it, and they could actually shoot the scene and then look at the playback of them as younger, and it’s ready for them to see,” she told me.
“All I got out of that was that this is an endorsement for AI, and oh my God. It’s not like, ‘Oh, it’s going to destroy everything,’ but what will remain? Forget actors; what about aspiring actors? “They’ll only be licensing and recycling.”
Concerned about the future of human competency, Kudrow remarked, “Leaving that aside, what work will there be for humans? Then what? People will be paid a living stipend; they will not be required to work. “How can it be enough?”
Before the film’s premiere, Hanks spoke about the possibilities and perils of AI in the film industry.
He stated that AI and deep fake technology allow people to rebuild themselves at any age. “I could be hit by a bus tomorrow and be done, but my performances can continue forever.”
Here, released on November 1st, 2024, is based on Richard McGuire’s graphic novel; Robert Zemeckis and Forrest Gump screenwriter Eric Roth scripted the film.
