After its first weekend, ‘Wicked’ outperformed ‘Gladiator II’ at the box office.
Wicked and Gladiator II dominated the box office this past weekend following their release.
According to a recent report, Wicked, part one of a two-part musical, has surpassed Ridley Scott’s sequel to the 2000 hit in terms of opening weekend success.
According to Variety, Ariana Grande’s movie made $114 million from 3,888 theaters over the weekend.
Gladiator II grossed $55.5 million in 3,573 theaters.
According to the publication, Wicked now holds the best opening for a Broadway film adaption, surpassing Into the Woods.
Cinemagoers eagerly anticipated both weekend releases, reigniting the excitement generated by Barbie and Oppenheimer’s simultaneous release last year.
This comes after Paul Mescal asked the cinema to show their support for both films.
The BAFTA-winning actor told Variety “I think they complement each other well because they’re so different, and if you love cinema, get out there and support it.”
