Common told Jennifer Hudson he loved her in their joint song “A GOD (There Is).”
Although Jennifer Hudson and Common may be somewhat private about their relationship, their music tells volumes.
52-year-old rapper and actor Friday, July 12 dropped his new album The Auditorium Vol. 1 on the single A GOD (There Is), featuring 43-year-old Hudson.
Common rhymes in the song, “Champion lover that could come with a ring/That got a ring to it, you and I theme to it.”
Common told People Magazine in a recent interview that the songs capture his emotions for Hudson, reflecting on their working relationship.
“I am in a great partnership, man; [Jennifer] is somebody I do care about and do love and am growing with,” he remarked.
He then expanded on the song’s topic, saying, “The potential of a ‘champion lover’ means, ‘Yo, you are the one.’ I am feeling that. It’s a lot of potential there is what I’ll say.” Common also praised the vocals of the strong vocalist elsewhere in the conversation.
“I loved it,” he said, “because when I performed it to musical friends, they were like, “Who is that singing?”
