David Beckham explains this Year’s Sexiest Man Alive in an interview.
David Beckham, who won the title of PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive in 2015, has some useful advice for this year’s winner.
During a recent engagement at Stella Artois’ Let’s Do Dinner event in New York City, the soccer star discussed how he handles the limelight that comes with the title.
“Don’t get carried away!” Beckham laughed and urged humility.
“Keep your feet on the ground because you only get it once,” he said, playfully asking, “I think you only get it once.
Can you get it more than once? As the globe awaits this year’s revelation, Beckham’s fun yet grounded perspective reminds us that the accolade, while wonderful, should be viewed in context.
Though it is uncommon, it is possible to be named Sexiest Man Alive more than once—just ask Brad Pitt, George Clooney, or even Richard Gere, who originally shared the title as part of a “Sexiest Couple” honor with Cindy Crawford in 1993 before winning the title solo in 1999.
When David Beckham was crowned Sexiest Man Alive in 2015, he regarded it as “a huge honor,” especially since it was the 30th anniversary of the prestigious title.
“I’m very pleased to accept,” he stated at the time, being humble as ever.
He stated that he has never considered himself particularly “attractive” or “sexy,” saying, “I mean, I like to wear nice clothes and suits and look and feel good, but I don’t ever think of myself that way.”
His down-to-earth demeanor has only contributed to his allure, making his status as one of the world’s hottest men all the more accessible.
When it comes to delivering advise to this year’s Sexiest Man Alive, Paul Rudd, like his 2019 predecessor Beckham, remains humble.
Rudd, who was named in 2021, scoffed at the idea of giving advice, telling PEOPLE at his recent All-Star Bowling Event, “I think I’m the wrong guy to ask for that kind of advice!” But I can’t wait to see who it is.
