Ed O’Neill Addresses ‘Modern Family’ Reunion Speculations Amid Growing Rumors

Fans’ hopes were stoked by Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s return to the Modern Family set

Star Ed O’Neill of Modern Family spoke on speculations swirling about a possible revival or reboot of the show.

In an interview with TV Insider, the 78-year-old actor—who plays patriarch Jay Pritchett in the ensemble comedy—expressed hesitation about returning before assuring viewers.
“That stuff bothers me,” he said.

He did add, though: “I mean, I am open to it. I like everybody involved, so I wouldn’t be the guy who [says no if everyone else wants to]. I wouldn’t do that.”

The correction follows a playful Instagram post from the Modern Family set by Ed’s former co-star Jesse Tyler Ferguson.

“Haven’t seen this view in a while,” he said on Friday, adding to the rumors about the show’s return.

The Broadway performer also collaborated with former child star Aubrey Anderson-Emmons to recreate a moment from the show in a TikTok video.

Fans were moved to tears when the Modern Family ensemble—which included Ferguson, O’Neill, Julia Bowen, Ty Burrell, and Eric Stonestreet—reunited at this year’s SAG Awards.

From 2009 to 2020, ABC carried the beloved sitcom for 11 seasons.
