Elisabeth Moss returns as shooting begins on ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ season 6.
Hulu announced on September 6 that production has begun on The Handmaid’s Tale’s sixth and final season.
A snapshot of the show’s actress, Elisabeth Moss, was posted on Instagram, confirming the news. The last season is slated to premiere in Spring 2025.
“It’s been an honor to tell the story of Margaret Atwood’s groundbreaking novel and chillingly relevant world, and we’re excited to bring viewers a sixth and final season of The Handmaid’s Tale,” said creator and executive producer Bruce Miller at the time.
“We are grateful to Hulu and MGM for allowing us to tell this story, which unfortunately has remained as relevant as ever throughout its run, and are in awe of our incredible fans for their unwavering support, and without whom we never would have gotten to this point,” the statement went on to say.
Although the specifics of the season 6 storyline are unknown, showrunner Bruce Miller previously hinted at a satisfying finish, saying in a November 2022 interview with DigitalSpy: “We’re going to wrap it up on our terms.”
“We never get it because of the way the business is set up. And, more crucially, it is not something that everyone would present to the audience,” he explained.
But I have the advantage of having two things. I own a book. The book and the author are very much alive and useful to me.”
The Handmaid’s Tale seasons 1–5 are available to stream on Hulu.
