Richard Gadd’s Netflix Show ‘Baby Reindeer’ received 11 Emmy nominations.
Baby Reindeer’s Emmy nomination has been criticized as an irresponsible act against Fiona Harvey, the woman who claimed to be the real-life stalker played by Jessica Gunning in the Netflix series.
According to the Daily Mail, lawyer Richard Roth described the impending awards as the “latest slap in the face” of Harvey, who is suing Netflix over how she was portrayed in Richard Gadd’s mini-series.
He claimed Harvey had experienced “a life-changing tragedy” as a result of the “brutal lies” revealed about her in the Netflix drama.
“There was some suggestion that the series shouldn’t have been nominated for Emmys because of this ongoing issue,” the lawyer noted. “Netflix claim that Baby Reindeer is a true story is clearly false.”
Last month, the Scottish woman filed a $170 million damages claim against Netflix in Californian District Court, claiming defamation, intentional infliction of mental distress, negligence, and gross negligence.
In the court files, Harvey is described as “physically weak.” She has and continues to suffer from anxiety, nightmares, panic attacks, shame, melancholy, nervousness, stomach pains, loss of appetite, fear, excessive stress, and illness, all of which are directly related to the lies revealed about her in Baby Reindeer.”
Harvey’s lawyer’s remarks come just days after Baby Reindeer received 11 Emmy nominations.
