Searchlight Pictures has released the teaser for “A Complete Unknown,” which stars Timothée Chalamet as Bob Dylan.
Searchlight Pictures has released the first trailer for James Mangold’s biopic “A Complete Unknown,” about Bob Dylan. The film, set in the early years of Dylan’s career, delves into the colorful 1960s New York folk culture. Timothée Chalamet plays as Bob Dylan, while Edward Norton as Pete Seeger, who serves as a framing device in the movie. The trailer features Dylan performing “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall” from his 1963 album “The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan.”
The film suggests a love triangle between Dylan, his ex-girlfriend Suze Rotolo, and folk superstar Joan Baez, played by Monica Barbaro. While Rotolo is not directly represented, Elle Fanning portrays Sylvie Russo, a fictitious figure who represents Rotolo. Given Rotolo’s reluctance to be defined by her relationship with Dylan, this creative option recognizes her impact without directly portraying her.
The film covers Dylan’s ascent to stardom as a folk performer and his contentious transition to rock music at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival. This period encompasses Dylan’s troubled relationship with Rotolo, who inspired many of his early compositions. Despite their split, Rotolo continues to have a huge impact on Dylan’s music and public presence.
In “A Complete Unknown,” viewers will see Dylan’s evolution from a 19-year-old Minnesota musician to a worldwide legend. The video follows his rise from performing in modest venues to becoming a sensation in concert halls and on the charts, culminating in his historic electrifying performance at Newport.
Timothée Chalamet stars as Bob Dylan, alongside Edward Norton, Elle Fanning, Monica Barbaro, Boyd Holbrook, Dan Fogler, Norbert Leo Butz, and Scoot McNairy. “A Complete Unknown” will be released in theaters in December.
