Dr. Jennifer Ashton, GMA3 co-host and ABC’s chief medical correspondent, is set to leave the network in June. She has decided to focus on building her new business, called Ajenda, which is centered around women’s wellness, specifically targeting menopause health and weight management.
“I kind of subscribe to the fact that when the universe sends you a message, you should listen to it,” Ashton mentioned in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “I’ve been watching and participating in the steadily building upswell of interest of those two areas in our country and in our society and in our culture and media and in medicine and in science.”
Ashton received supportive messages from her fellow ABC anchors, ABC News president Kim Godwin, and Debra OConnell, who leads ABC’s news and networks division. They all expressed their acknowledgment of her decision and shared their well wishes.
“As one of the preeminent medical journalists of our time, Dr. Ashton has immeasurably contributed to ABC News as America’s #1 news network,” OConnell stated. “She will always have a home at ABC, and we wish her only the best as she continues her unwavering advocacy of women’s health.”
“As one of the preeminent medical journalists of our time, or as we call her here at ABC, ‘America’s favorite doctor,’ Dr. Ashton has immeasurably contributed to ABC News as America’s #1 news network,” OConnell noted in a statement.
Overall, Dr. Jennifer Ashton’s departure from ABC News marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter as she ventures into the realm of women’s health and wellness with Ajenda.
