Jenna Ortega did not want to witness the gender-flipped spinoff ‘Jamie Bond’ from the James Bond film.
Jenna Ortega courageously declined to star in gender-flipped spinoffs, placing her strong voice on the table for more female-led franchises.
During a recent interview with MTV amid the continuous promotion of her new film Beetlejuice In Beetlejuice, Ortega, 21, expressed her strong opinion on whether she would consider an offer from director Tim Burton to revive Edward Scissorhands as the gender-flipped Edith Scissorhands.
However, the Wednesday star explained that she would be working in franchises that create entirely new stories with original female characters who are central to the narrative, rather than adapting existing male-centric franchises into new versions with a female main character.
“I love that there’s a lot more female leads nowadays, I think that’s so special. But we should have our own,” she stated. “I don’t like it when it’s like a spinoff — I don’t want to see like Jamie Bond. You know?”
“I want to see another badass,” the young actress admitted, dismissing the concept of a gender-flipped spinoff series.
Although Ortega won’t have to worry about the James Bond brand switching genders, long-time franchise producer Barbara Broccoli has always stated that 007 remains a man.
