The trailer for “Joker: Folie à Deux” features Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn and Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker.
Todd Phillips’ trailer for “Joker: Folie à Deux” has been published, starring Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix as Harley Quinn and the Joker, respectively. The sequel to the 2019 film centers on the relationship between Arkham Asylum’s two most renowned figures. Margot Robbie brought Harley Quinn, who first appeared in “Batman: The Animated Series,” to life.
The cast features returning “Joker” actress Zazie Beetz, Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland, and Harry Lawtey. Phillips commented that “Joker 2” contains musical themes reminiscent of Francis Ford Coppola’s “One From the Heart.” Casting director Francine Maisler revealed at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival that casting Gaga was Phillips’ idea. Maisler stated, “She’s really surprising—and really good.” I saw it and I was really surprised.”
Lady Gaga explained her distinct approach to the role, telling Access Hollywood, “My version of Harley is mine, and it’s very authentic to this film and these characters.” I’ve never done anything like what I’m doing in this movie before, so everything will be absolutely new and really fun.”
The original “Joker” was the first R-rated film to gross over $1 billion globally. It received 11 Oscar nominations, with Phoenix winning Best Actor and Hildur Guðnadóttir winning Best Original Score.
“Joker: Folie à Deux,” which translates to “madness for two,” will hit theaters on October 4 after making its debut at the Venice Film Festival in 2024.
