Kelli-Leigh Breaks Silence on Her Struggle with Racism in the Music world

Kelli-Leigh opened up about the challenges she had in the music world.

Kelli-Leigh, a British singer and songwriter noted for her soulful voice, recently revealed an awful experience of being nominated for a Grammy.

The 39-year-old performer discusses her experience as a Black woman in the music industry, acknowledging that she had to work more than others.

During a recent interview with the Mirror, the Grammy-nominated star stated, “A lot of us can feel unified, but we’ll all have a very slightly different experience.”

The On Repeat hitmaker opened out about the challenges she faced that made her feel excluded. Despite becoming a superstar, she still needs to prove herself.

“Just because I’m a woman of color, people will instantly go to R&B and I’d have to correct them. There are brilliant R&B singers but that’s not my space. I have to work three times as hard, I have to prove myself three times as hard as my white counterpart would have to” she explained.

She emphasized the difficulties she faced, claiming that the music world can be extremely harsh on people who are continuously trying to prove themselves.

Kelli-Leigh remains patient and positive since her Grammy nomination is about more than simply her victory; it also addresses the racism she faces.
