Kevin Costner, who has mainly acted in Westerns, will be making a significant genre shift with the new surfing thriller movie.
Kevin Costner’s upcoming film, Headhunters, is a thriller about surfing that takes place in Bali and is a complete departure from the norm.
The Hollywood Reporter claims that the 69-year-old Oscar winner is moving aside from the Westerns that dominated his career, such as his noteworthy performance in Yellowstone and the underwhelming Horizon: An American Saga.
Under his Territory Pictures imprint, Costner will co-write, produce, and appear in the movie Headhunters. Working with the idea’s originator, cinematographer-turned-director Steven Holleran, the movie aims to combine the suspense of horror with the high-octane intensity of surf culture.
Set in a tropical paradise that quickly turns into a fight for survival, Headhunters follows Lazer, played by Costner, a weary American ex-pat living in Bali. He partners with Bima, portrayed by Daniel Zovatto, in search of the perfect wave on a remote, uncharted island. However, their thrilling adventure soon transforms into a brutal struggle for survival.
In Hawaii, pre-production has already commenced, and next month’s filming is scheduled.
Producer Scott Steindorff commended Costner’s acting chops and charm, calling the script “one of the best” he’s ever seen.
