Shrek 5 Release Date Set: Mike Myers and Cameron Diaz Return

Along with Eddie Murphy, Mike Myers and Cameron Diaz will repeat their roles in Shrek 5.

With its fifth movie, Shrek is at last making a comeback to the major theaters.

Entertainment Weekly claims DreamWorks revealed on Tuesday, July 9, that Shrek 5 is scheduled for theater opening on July 1, 2026.

Mike Myers is back in his eponymous role as Ogre, Cameron Diaz is playing his wife Fiona, and Eddie Murphy once more plays the couple’s donkey.

Walt Dohrn, well-known for all three DreamWorks Trolls, will helmed the movie.

Having first shown his knowledge of the Shrek series as a story artist and writer in the second and third chapters, the director is familiar with the nature of the series and also serves as the head of the narrative on the fourth feature, Shalk Forever After.

Apart from his tale domain efforts, Dohrn has also provided his voice for the villain, Rumpelstiltskin.

Especially, the Shrek series has not had any new films since the fourth one was released in 2010.

Regarding the returning ensemble, Myers’s first major part in a theater production since Shrek Forever After is in this future movie.

Furthermore exciting is the much-awaited inclusion, which marks Diaz’s first project since her 2014 retirement. On November 15, Back in Action will land on Netflix.

Murphy also hinted last month of a Shrekiverse expansion.

“Donkey’s gonna have his movie,” he said to Collider. We also intend to do Donkey [movie]. We will thus do a Shrek and a Donkey.”
