In a significant development for fans of dark humor and narrative storytelling, Tom Segura, a stand-up comedian celebrated for his unique comedic sensibility, has announced a new partnership with Netflix. The streaming giant will host a six-episode dark comedy series, both starring and produced by Segura, set to begin production later this year and slated for a 2025 release.
Tom Segura, whose relationship with Netflix has already seen the release of five successful comedy specials, is taking a step further into the world of scripted television. The untitled series will feature Segura not only in front of the camera but also behind it, lending his voice as the narrator. Each episode promises to deliver a series of vignettes, weaving stories that combine the comedian’s signature blend of humor with a darkly twisted narrative approach.
The project will bring together a seasoned team of industry professionals. Rami Hachache, known for directing Segura’s Netflix specials “Ball Hog” and “Mostly Stories,” is set to direct the series. Meanwhile, Jeremy Konner, whose portfolio includes credits for “Drunk History,” “Another Period,” and “Waffles & Mochi,” will serve as the head writer. The production will also see Ryan Hall join Segura in producing the series through YMH Studios, a collaboration that hints at the creative synergy and vision behind the upcoming show.
In addition to his venture into television, Segura is currently on his “Come Together” world tour and has recently been in discussions to portray Bob Zmuda and Tony Clifton, iconic characters associated with the avant-garde comedian Andy Kaufman, in the upcoming film “Dirty Rotten Bastard.” The film, to be directed by Ryan McNeely and Josh Martin, also known as The Director Brothers, marks another significant step in Segura’s expanding career in entertainment.
Tom Segura’s recent Netflix special, “Sledgehammer,” debuted at #1 last summer, showcasing his continued appeal and success on the platform. His ventures into film and television, alongside a prolific podcasting career with hits like “Your Mom’s House” and “2 Bears 1 Cave,” co-produced with his wife Christina Pazsitzky, demonstrate Segura’s versatile talents and his ability to resonate with a wide audience.
As the production for the dark comedy series gears up, both fans and critics are eagerly anticipating what promises to be a unique and engaging addition to Netflix’s lineup, further cementing Tom Segura’s position as one of the most dynamic figures in modern comedy.
