Vanessa Williams Unveiled as Miranda Priestly in First Look at The Devil Wears Prada Musical

As the actress and singer is depicted emerging from beneath the stage, the promo boldly says, “Miranda has arrived.”

Starting the premiere of the new musical adaption of The Devil Wears Prada in London, England, fans are first seeing Vanessa Williams changed into Miranda Priestly in a new social media promotion.

Before heading to the Dominion Theatre in London’s West End for its official premiere in October, preview performances for the show start at the Theatre Royal Plymouth on Saturday, July 6, and will run until August 17.

As the actress and singer are shown emerging dramatically from beneath the stage, the commercial boldly says, “Miranda has arrived.”

Featuring music by Elton John, the lead actress in the new production is wearing a gorgeous red sequin gown along with a matching duster jacket.

She first freezes, keeping the jacket covered and sporting a somber Miranda look, but as she rises to the platform she quickly opens her coat to expose the complete dazzling ensemble.

Lauren Weisberger’s bestselling 2003 book and the hit 2006 movie, which made $326.7 million globally on a budget of $35–41 million and attracted two Academy Award nominations, are the basis of the musical adaptation.

Williams plays Miranda Priestly, the tough editor-in-chief of the fictional fashion magazine Runway, most famously portrayed by Meryl Streep in the film adaptation.
