The pop star said, “I change my vocal placement on purpose.”
People who don’t like Ariana Grande‘s voice are no longer saying that. After fans pointed out that she changed her pitch and cadence very dramatically in a recent interview on Penn Badgley’s Podcrushed show, a clip of the interview went viral online. On Tuesday (June 18), the pop star explained why the change in her tone was natural.
Grande talks about recording new music in a lower register in one TikTok post that includes the interview clip. Then she quickly switches to a higher register. “The Voice Change??” was written below the video.
Some reviewers said the “Thank U, Next” singer was fake because of the way she talks. She responded that people were wrong and said that her higher tone comes from “habit” and “speaking like this for two years” while she plays Glinda on the Wicked set.
“and also good vocal health,” she said next. “I change where I put my voice (high/low) on purpose a lot, depending on how much I’m singing.”
The musician also said, “BYE, I’ve always done this.” Fans have noticed that Grande’s voice has changed before, but after she explained herself, this interview clip might be the last time they see it. Similar complaints were made about her higher voice when she presented at the 2024 Oscars with her co-star from Wicked, Cynthia Erivo. This was in March, even though the two-time Grammy winner had been open about changing herself to play Glinda.
She said on The Zach Sang Show in February, “Prepping for the auditions took about six months. I had voice and acting lessons every day.” “Every day I worked out…” to change my voice, even my singing voice. I had to break down everything about myself to show them I could handle becoming this other person.
Some people were interested in how Grande spoke, but many fans were more excited when she told Podcrushed that she has more new music coming out, possibly in the form of a deluxe version of her #1 album on the Billboard 200, Eternal Sunshine. She told the audience, “I’ve been living in the studio.” “I spent 10 days at the studio after the Met Gala.” I’ve been writing a lot, and I might write even more. At some time, I’d like to do a deluxe.
