Announcing this album marks one goal off Katy Perry’s bucket list.
Officially announcing her sixth studio album, “143,” Katy Perry plans to release it on September 20. Offering her fans a peek at the next record, the pop sensation posted the thrilling news on her social media channels.
Perry’s description of “143”—a dance album—represents a long-held aspiration for the performer. “I’ve been talking about [doing] two albums the past eight years, and that’s a dance album and an acoustic album,” Perry said on an Instagram Live session. “I’m not yet working on the acoustic record. We do, however, never stop writing. But I finally created the dance album, the one I always wanted to produce.”
The new record looks to be a high-energy, high-BPM summertime fit. Perry highlighted the album’s joyous, loving, and light-filled nature, saying, “We just had a family dance party to one of the songs, and it’s just full of so much joy, so much love, so much light.”
Perry leaked three songs from “143” during her live performances on Instagram and TikTok. First, “I’m His He’s Mine,” has Doechii and samples of Crystal Waters’s 1991 single “Gypsy Woman (She’s Homeless). She also included bits of the lively tracks “Nirvana” and “Gimme Gimme,” which starred 21 Savage.
On TikTok Perry said, “‘143” is a dancing party. “All fandoms, invited.” And summer is sensual, high energy, plenty of love, primarily lots of love and BPM. And it is for all of you.
Last month Perry hinted at this new musical epoch, saying that the first song from the album, “Woman’s World,” will be released on July 11 together with a music video. Perry noted on TikTok that she has cleared her calendar to make travel feasible in not the distant future, even if a tour has not yet been finalized.
When “143” comes this September, fans should get ready for an album loaded with energetic, danceable music.
