Hollywood star Ryan Gosling, alongside the celebrated composer’s Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, has released a special extended play (EP) titled “Ken The EP“, commemorating the phenomenal success of the Barbie movie. The EP, released in time for the holiday season, is a tribute to Gosling’s character Ken from the record-breaking film directed by Greta Gerwig.
“Ken The EP” features the original hit “I’m Just Ken” from the “Barbie” movie, which has already marked its success by reaching the top 5 on Billboard’s Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart and amassing over 100 million global streams. In addition, the EP includes three new versions of the track: “I’m Just Ken (Merry Kristmas Barbie)”, “I’m Just Ken (In My Feelings Acoustic)”, and “I’m Just Ken (Purple Disco Machine Remix)”. Accompanying the holiday remix is a performance video featuring Gosling with Ronson and Wyatt.
The success of “I’m Just Ken” and “Barbie The Album” is evident in their nominations for 11 Grammy Awards, with “I’m Just Ken” also being nominated for a Golden Globe and Critics Choice Award. This recognition highlights the cultural impact and popularity of the film’s soundtrack.
Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, in their interview with The Hollywood Reporter, shed light on the creative process behind scoring Gerwig’s blockbuster. Initially brought on board to create two songs, they ended up composing the entire film’s score, including the addition of Gosling’s vocals. Ronson recalls the impactful experience of recording “I’m Just Ken” with Gosling, emphasizing the actor’s commitment and expressiveness during the studio session.
“Ken The EP“, executive produced by Ronson, is now available on various music streaming platforms.
