Ryan Reynolds discusses how working on the Deadpool films affects his personal life.
Ryan Reynolds has lately spoken on the future of the Deadpool character.
Reynolds stated on Variety’s Actors on Actors with Andrew Garfield, “My feeling is that character works very well in two ways: scarcity and surprise.”
He said to Garfield: “It’s been six years since the last one and part of the reason is that it swallows my whole life.”
The Green Lantern actor revealed that developing a Deadpool film is “time-consuming,” starting with “development through post-production into marketing and promotion.”
Reynolds did, however, explain that this character took all of his efforts, and he never wanted to be referred to as an absentee dad.
“I never want to be absent, and I never want to miss anything [in their lives]. So, I’m not sure what the future of Deadpool will be,” said the Free Guy actor, who has four children with wife Blake Lively.
Reynolds went on: “I am proud that we (I and director Shawn Levy) made the movie to be a complete experience instead of a commercial for another one.”
“It’s important sometimes to allow a movie to just be a movie,” said the IF actor.
Reynolds also stated that he sees Deadpool as a supporting character rather than a lead [character], the center.
“We center him sometimes because that is what they want, but you can’t center him.
“We centre him sometimes because that’s what they want, but you can’t centre him unless you take everything away from him. You have to create a situation where he’s so much the underdog, and I don’t think I can do that again,” the Red Notice actor explained.
Reynolds elaborated: “So, I think if he comes back, it’s going to be in someone else’s movie.”
“Channing Tatum was so excited to play Gambit (in Deadpool & Wolverine), and I would happily be the fifth banana in his movie or anyone else’s,” he told me.
