With this being a turning point in her developing career in country music, Lainey Wilson bursts into tears.
The Grand Ole Opry has given an invitation to country singer Lainey Wilson. The news was made unexpectedly on Tuesday night during “The Voice” season finale. A judge on the show Reba McEntire gave Wilson the invitation after her performance of her most recent single, “Hang Tight Honey.”
“I am thrilled to death if I had anything to do with your career, ’cause you’re blowing it up,” McEntire said, clearly proud of Wilson’s achievements.
She then mentioned Wilson’s most recent ACM Awards wins and said she wanted to invite her to join the Grand Ole Opry to close the generational divide.
She then mentioned Wilson’s most recent ACM Award wins and said she wanted to invite her to join the Grand Ole Opry to close the generational divide. Wilson considers the invitation to be a big turning point in her career as she remembers her boyhood ambition of playing at the Opry. Wilson said, “It’s crazy that you’re asking me to be a member,” to McEntire directly. “You inspire me every day. I look up to you so much.”
Wilson later posted on social media, thanking the opportunity and recognizing the achievement of a long-held goal.
Wilson had already been having a flurry of success, having been crowned Entertainer of the Year at the ACM Awards and turning 32, before getting the Opry invitation. In sharing her path to “The Voice,” she also recalled her resolve despite being turned down at earlier auditions.
Lainey Wilson’s fast-rising career in country music will reach another milestone on June 7th when she gets inducted into the Grand Ole Opry.
